Sloppy Joe from SCRATCH
Evoking warm childhood memories, this is an inexpensive comfort food & family favorite.
Tip:
Be sure to have plenty of napkins on hand.
Saute fresh vegetables
Brown the meat
Soft Potato Bread is ESSENTIAL
Enjoy!
INGREDIENTS
1/2 of each red & yellow bell pepper seeded & chopped
1 large yellow onion chopped
3 garlic cloves pressed
2 lbs ground meat (turkey, chicken or 80/20 beef)
2 tbsp garlic powder
2 tbsp onion powder
2 tbsp paprika
1 8oz cans tomato sauce
1 can diced tomatoes
1 tsp sea salt or lawry's seasoning (optional)
fresh cracked black pepper to taste
1/3 cup sugar (optional)
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
DIRECTIONS
1. Heat saute pan
2. Add oil
3. Lower heat
4. Saute peppers, onions & pressed garlic
5. Cook until onions are translucent
6. Remove from pan
7. Brown meat
8. Add seasonings
9. Replace veggies to pan
10. Add sauce & tomatoes
11. Add sugar and vinegar
12. Stir
13. Simmer on low for 15 minutes or until reduced to the desired thickness of sauce
14. Serve on potato bread hamburger rolls or over fluffy rice.

Boy does this bring back memories. I just picked up some Manwich while grocery shopping tonight as my son has never had it. That will surely be a fun meal for him!
aw, i'm sure he'll love it! i remember being frustrated as a kid b/c it was so messy. LOL
