Health Benefits of Cranberries
Benefits Come in a Variety of Forms
Cranberries contain bacteria-blocking compounds that are believed to be helpful in preventing urinary tract infections, and scientists now think this same function may be useful in blocking the bacteria responsible for ulcers and certain oral bacteria that can lead to gum disease. Current research indicates that approximately 10 ounces of cranberry juice cocktail is needed daily to achieve the bacteria-blocking benefits that ward off UTIs, ulcers and gum disease. You can get these benefits in an array of cranberry products. For round-the-clock protection, snack or cook with one of these products at least once a day.
I grab a couple of pkgs of these & throw them in my freezer. That way I can make my favorite recipes all year around. I add them to juice & ice in my blender.
INGREDIENTS:
1 64-ounce bottle Ocean Spray® Cranberry Juice Cocktail
2 1/2 cups apple juice
1/4 cup sugar, optional
3 3-inch cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon whole allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Orange slices, garnish
Whole cloves, garnish
DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients, except garnishes, in a large saucepan. Heat to boiling, reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Strain punch to remove spices. Place in a heat proof punch bowl. Garnish with orange slices studded with cloves.
Makes 14 6-ounce servings.
